Overview
The Master of Sustainability is a course-based, interdisciplinary program offered through the University of Alberta's College of Natural and Applied Sciences, with founding faculties of Agricultural, Life and Environmental Sciences (ALES) and Science. It is delivered in a hybrid format, combining four fully online 3-credit core courses (Foundations of Sustainability, Integrated Sustainability Solutions, Leadership for the Sustainability Transition, and Fundamentals of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence) with an on-campus concentration of four further 3-credit courses in one of: Climate Mitigation and Adaptation, Environmental Policy, Collaborative Governance, or the Built Environment, plus a planned Consumption and Production concentration launching Fall 2027. The program totals 30 credits, including a six-credit capstone group project and a non-credit ethics and academic citizenship course. Students who complete the standalone Graduate Certificate in Sustainability and are later admitted to the Master of Sustainability may transfer its four core courses toward the master's requirements. The program admits in both Fall and Winter terms.
