Overview
Urban Development is a fully accredited Master of Planning (MPl) program offered by Toronto Metropolitan University's School of Urban and Regional Planning within the Faculty of Community Services. The curriculum examines the economic, socio-cultural, political, ecological and spatial dimensions of communities, integrating urban culture and nature, and culminates in a capstone self-directed research paper or applied project on a major issue in contemporary urban planning, design and development. The program is offered through two full-time streams. The Two-year Regular Stream, intended for students without a prior planning background, totals 17 credits of core courses, an internship, studios, electives and the capstone, completed in 18 months. The one-year Accelerated Stream condenses core courses, studios, electives and the capstone into 10 credits and is intended for applicants with a professionally accredited planning degree and at least five years of full-time professional planning experience. Both streams require a university-level statistics course prior to admission and a minimum overall average of B (3.00 on a 4.33 scale) in the final two years of undergraduate study.

Admission Requirements: Two-year Regular Stream applicants need a four-year undergraduate degree (or equivalent) with a minimum CGPA of 3.00 on a 4.33 scale (B) in the last two years of study and a completed university-level statistics course; a prior degree in planning is not required. One-year Accelerated Stream applicants need a professionally accredited bachelor's degree in Planning, the same minimum CGPA, a completed statistics course, and at least five cumulative years of full-time professional planning experience. Applicants whose previous education was not instructed in English must demonstrate English language proficiency at the level set by the Yeates School of Graduate Studies.
