Overview
The Bachelor of Agricultural Science Degree in Horticulture helps you develop technical, communication, and business skills to prepare you for work in the Fraser Valley's agricultural sector. In addition to including the core content offered by Horticulture programs in this field (e.g. nursery, greenhouse, vegetable, fruit production and science), the degree has an applied focus. Most of the courses are associated with a laboratory section, practical greenhouse work, and/or field trips.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: UFV's Bachelor of Agricultural Science, which includes the Horticulture option, sets its own Calendar entrance requirements. From B.C. secondary school: English Studies 12 or English First Peoples 12 at C+; Anatomy and Physiology 12 at C+ (or Life Sciences 11 at C+ plus Chemistry 12 at C as an equivalent); Chemistry 11 at C or better; and one of Foundations of Mathematics 11, Pre-Calculus 11, Calculus 12 or Statistics 12 at C or better. Applicants must also meet UFV's Degree/diploma-level English language proficiency requirement, met by IELTS Academic 6.5 overall with no band below 6.0, or TOEFL iBT 88 with no section below 20, among the accepted tests, unless met through the secondary English credential above. UFV Agriculture certificate or diploma holders instead meet the Agriculture Technology diploma's entrance standard plus BIO 111, CHEM 110 and STAT 104 prerequisites. Applicants with under 15 post-secondary credits are assessed on their high school record; those with 15 or more need a cumulative GPA of 2.00 across all attempted courses.
Application Details
Start Date:Three entry points a year - Fall (September to December), Winter (January to April) and Summer (May to August, run as two sessions of May-June and July-August). UFV's programme list shows this one admitting for all three.
Application Deadline:UFV publishes no closing date of its own for this programme - the Calendar entry points applicants at the institution-wide schedule instead of naming a deadline, so what follows is that schedule. DOMESTIC APPLICANTS: applications open 1 October for the Fall (September) intake, 1 May for the Winter (January) intake and 1 October for the Summer (May) intake. Grade 12 students may apply from 1 October of their graduating year and must send final grades with proof of graduation by 3 August. INTERNATIONAL APPLICANTS: this programme accepts international students. UFV International runs its own windows - 1 October to 31 May for Fall, 1 May to 31 October for Winter, 1 October to 1 March for Summer - and confirms acceptances in the order applications arrive, so a programme can close early once it fills. Allow up to six weeks for a decision, and pay the tuition that confirms an offer by 1 May for Fall, 1 October for Winter or 15 February for Summer.
