This four-course, twelve-credit certificate is aimed at students in programs or workplace settings that call for intercultural understanding. It builds skills and theoretical background for understanding, analyzing, and working within the complex intercultural situations people often encounter.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: UFV's own Calendar entry sets the entrance requirements for the Intercultural Essentials associate certificate. Applicants need B.C. secondary school graduation or equivalent, or a minimum age of 19 by the first day of classes; alternatively, post-secondary applicants may present 9 or more credits at the 100 level or above with a 2.00 CGPA, a two-year-plus career/technical diploma with a 2.50 CGPA, or a completed bachelor's degree with a 2.00 CGPA. All applicants must meet UFV's Entry-level English language proficiency requirement, for example IELTS Academic 6.0 overall with no band below 5.5, or TOEFL iBT 80 with no section below 19, and submit official transcripts from every post-secondary institution attended other than UFV. Current UFV students instead declare the certificate through the Academic Advising Centre. The certificate admits for Fall, Winter and Summer entry.

Application Details

Start Date: Fall, Winter and Summer
Application Deadline: Domestic applicants apply directly to UFV: applications for Fall (September) 2027 entry open 1 October 2026, for Winter (January) 2027 entry opened 1 May 2026, and for Summer (May) 2027 entry open 1 October 2026; UFV publishes no closing date for any of these and instead admits many programmes strictly in application-date order once every required document has arrived, so applying soon after opening matters more than any deadline. Grade 12 students may apply from 1 October of their graduating year and must send final transcripts by 3 August. International applicants use UFV International's own windows - 1 October to 31 May for Fall, 1 May to 31 October for Winter and 1 October to 1 March for Summer - and are likewise assessed on a rolling, first-arrived basis until each programme fills. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
