The Linguistics and Language Studies Associate Certificate examines how languages function, how communication varies across cultures, and how language shapes society and identity. It combines linguistics, language learning, communication, and cultural studies, with coursework covering language structure and usage, language acquisition, and sociolinguistics, and develops analytical, research, and intercultural skills. The credential is completed over four semesters and includes a practicum providing work experience as well as optional co-op semesters offering paid field experience. It is intended for students interested in languages, education, communication, global cultures, translation, social sciences, or work with diverse communities, and provides a foundation applicable across education, communication, translation and interpretation, community services, international work, public service, research, and human resources. The program is offered at UFV's Abbotsford campus and is eligible for financial aid.
