Program details

Overview

This three-course certificate focuses on business writing and public speaking skills relevant to starting or advancing a career. Study builds the ability to speak with confidence in meetings or before large groups, to produce corporate communication, and to think critically across a range of workplace situations.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: New students must apply through Qualifying Studies and meet both the university's general admission requirements and the prerequisites for the certificate's CMNS courses; applicants already enrolled in another post-secondary programme need only meet the CMNS course prerequisites. All Communications courses other than CMNS 115 additionally assume some proficiency with email, web-based research and word-processing software. UFV's Academic Calendar entry for the certificate does not state a separate minimum GPA or English-language test score for admission to the certificate itself; students must instead maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.00 for good academic standing, and a minimum GPA of 2.00 across the three certificate courses (with no course grade below C) to graduate. The three-course, nine-credit associate certificate is offered from the Abbotsford campus with a September intake.

Application Details

Start Date: September
Application Deadline: Domestic applicants apply directly to UFV: applications for Fall (September) 2027 entry open 1 October 2026, for Winter (January) 2027 entry opened 1 May 2026, and for Summer (May) 2027 entry open 1 October 2026; UFV publishes no closing date for any of these and instead admits many programmes strictly in application-date order once every required document has arrived, so applying soon after opening matters more than any deadline. Grade 12 students may apply from 1 October of their graduating year and must send final transcripts by 3 August. International applicants use UFV International's own windows - 1 October to 31 May for Fall, 1 May to 31 October for Winter and 1 October to 1 March for Summer - and are likewise assessed on a rolling, first-arrived basis until each programme fills. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
