Overview
Offered part-time and online by SFU Continuing Studies, this certificate develops the practical craft of designing and facilitating public engagement so participants reach a shared understanding of the issues at hand. Ten required courses, each running one to three days, cover engagement principles, facilitation, Indigenous protocols, online engagement strategies, design thinking and evaluation, and a practicum has each student design and deliver a real engagement project. Sessions run daytime in Pacific Time between September and April, instructors are experienced practitioners who mentor students, and graduates earn continuing professional learning credit recognised for Planning Institute of B.C. membership.

Admission Requirements: Standard entry requires Grade 12 or its equivalent; mature applicants who do not hold this may instead qualify with at least five years of appropriate professional experience. Because this program carries SFU Continuing Studies' Advanced English Language Recommendation, applicants are advised to hold IELTS Academic overall 6.5 with no band below 6.0, though this is stated as a recommendation rather than a hard admission bar and no formal proof is required at enrolment.
