Mineral Engineering is a four-year Bachelor of Applied Science Specialist program in the University of Toronto's Lassonde Mineral Engineering Program (Department of Civil and Mineral Engineering), covering mineral exploration, mine design and management, mineral processing, and mining finance. The first year is common with other University of Toronto engineering programs, allowing transfer into year two of Mineral Engineering from the General Engineering (Track One) first year or other engineering programs. Year two concentrates on minerals engineering fundamentals, while years three and four comprise a minerals engineering core supplemented by technical electives, allowing students to specialize in a particular branch of the field such as mine design, mineral processing, mining economics and finance, or environmental impact and risk assessment. Students also complete humanities and complementary-studies electives in the final two years. Practical training includes laboratory sessions plus one two-week survey field camp and one two-week geology field camp. Admission requires an Ontario Secondary School Diploma with English, Advanced Functions, Calculus and Vectors, Chemistry, and Physics at the 4U level.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) with six Grade 12 'U'/'M' courses including English, with required Grade 12 courses English (ENG4U/EAE4U), Calculus and Vectors (MCV4U), Chemistry (SCH4U), Advanced Functions (MHF4U), and Physics (SPH4U); the co-op component of Grade 12 courses is not used for admission purposes.
