Overview
The Bachelor of Science in Biology allows you to explore life at all levels of organization, from the gene to the ecosystem. Through this program you'll understand the key fields of biology and develop practical skills through field work, laboratory work and research projects. You also have the opportunity to design your own program of study with the option of including a co-op placement.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: UVic's direct-entry requirement for BC and Yukon high-school applicants is Approved English 11, Pre-calculus 11, Chemistry 11, Physics 11 and an approved Social Studies 11/12, followed by English Studies 12 or English First Peoples 12 at 73% or higher, Pre-calculus 12 at 77% or higher and two approved Science 12 courses; UVic's own estimate for a competitive Grade 12 average sits at a minimum of 85%, though meeting it does not guarantee an offer. Applicants transferring from a BC college need a C (2.00 on UVic's 9-point scale) across their most recent 12 UVic units/24 credits, including two of MATH 100, 101, 102, 109 or 151 and four approved Science courses; a completed one-year diploma raises the bar to A- (7.00) and a full diploma to B (5.00). Applicants whose first language is not English must meet UVic's language-proficiency requirement, typically IELTS Academic 6.5 overall with no band under 6.0, or TOEFL iBT 88 overall with no section under 20.
Application Details
Start Date:September (Winter Session) entry is the main intake and the only one open to applicants still in high school. UVic also lists January and Summer starts for this program, open to applicants who have already left high school and to post-secondary transfer applicants.
Application Deadline:UVic institution-wide dates, identical for Canadian and international applicants (UVic publishes no separate international deadline). September entry: 31 January. January entry: 30 September. Summer entry: 31 March. The January and Summer intakes are for high-school graduates and transfer applicants, not for students still in high school. High-school applicants who submit grades by early December can be considered for early admission. UVic states these are annual fixed dates and warns that a program can stop accepting applications at any time without notice, while some programs keep accepting them past the published date.
