Program details

Overview

The Civil Engineering program prepares students to design and build sustainable infrastructure for communities. Core topics include sustainable development and infrastructure design, building science fundamentals, environmental engineering and environmental policy, sustainable transportation systems, and climate adaptation for resilient cities. Learning takes place through design studios, labs and tutorials where students test materials and model systems, and team-based projects that mirror consulting and industry work. The program includes UVic's co-operative education option, in which students complete paid, career-related work terms that count toward the degree; on average 70 percent of UVic co-op students graduate with a job offer already in hand, and international students can participate through co-op work permits. Graduates pursue roles in construction and risk analysis, environmental engineering, geotechnical engineering, municipal engineering, structural design, and marine engineering. The program leads to a Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) degree completed over four years of full-time study, offered by the Department of Civil Engineering in the Faculty of Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Victoria.
