Offered by University of Victoria in Victoria, Canada, Data Science: Bachelor of Science Degree (BSc) is a bachelor's degree in Data Science & Analytics programme. The programme runs for 4 years, delivered on campus. Teaching is in English. Tuition is CAD 7,100 per total for local students.
This four-year Bachelor of Science develops the software development, mathematics, and statistics skills needed to extract insights from data and apply them to real-world problems in areas such as climate, health, business, and sports analytics. The curriculum balances theoretical foundations with applied work in analytics, artificial intelligence, data modelling, and visualization, and includes attention to the responsible use of data alongside the technical skillset. Students can enter the program through two routes: applying directly to Computer Science and transferring into Data Science, or entering as an undecided science student before declaring Data Science as a major. An optional co-operative education program lets students complete paid, degree-related work terms, with the university stating that about seventy percent of co-op participants secure a job offer before graduating; international students can take part with the appropriate work permit. Student groups such as the Students in Undergraduate Mathematics and Statistics club, Women in Engineering and Computer Science, and the Computer Science Course Union support the program community. Graduates pursue roles including data analyst, business intelligence specialist, statistician, database administrator, and data visualization architect, or continue to graduate study in a related field.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: You cannot apply to this major directly. Entry through the Faculty of Engineering and Computer Science is by applying to Computer Science (BSc); entry through the Faculty of Science is by applying as a Science (Undecided) student. Once you have met the requirements you transfer into Data Science as a major or an honours program, and UVic also offers Data Science as a minor alongside another degree. The entry requirements are therefore those of the program you apply to: for the Computer Science route on the BC/Yukon curriculum, approved English 11, Pre-calculus 11, an approved science 11 and an approved social studies 11/12, then English Studies 12 or English First Peoples 12 at 73% or higher, Pre-calculus 12 at 77% or higher, an approved science 12 and one further approved academic 12, at an estimated 81% admission average, with international curricula assessed on their own equivalents. All applicants must satisfy UVic's English language requirement: transcripts alone suffice after four years of full-time English-medium study in Canada, otherwise a test is needed (IELTS Academic 6.5 with no band under 6.0, TOEFL iBT 88 with no section under 20, CAEL 70, Duolingo 120, PTE Academic 65, Cambridge C1/C2 180 or four-skill MET 64).
Application Details
Application Deadline:Domestic applicants apply through EducationPlannerBC, which opens for 2027-entry applications on 1 October 2026: most degree programmes see September 2027 entry close 31 January 2027, January 2027 entry close 30 September 2026, and Summer 2027 entry close 31 March 2027, though Teacher Education post-degree programmes close 2 January 2027, Indigenous Education post-degree admits on an ongoing basis, and Engineering's Summer entry (high-school graduates only) closes 31 December 2026. International applicants use the same portal and face identical dates, since UVic publishes no separate international deadline. UVic treats these as fixed annual dates rather than rolling admission, though it warns any programme can close early without notice. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
