Program details

Overview

This micro-credential is aimed at health care professionals and follows current evidence and trends in wound care, building tools and strategies for evidence-based practice as part of an interprofessional team. Main concepts include planning and assessment across acute, chronic, and surgical wounds, choosing wound care products and dressings, and understanding wound healing, prevention, and infection. The program also covers advocacy, evidence-based practice, and collaboration and education between patients and professionals. Case studies are used to apply theory and build broad clinical expertise in wound care.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: Enrolment in the Wound Management for Health Professionals micro-certificate is open to any health professional interested in wound management -- the program page states that 'a clinical background is expected' but sets no specific prior credential, prerequisite course, or minimum GPA as a formal admission condition. International applicants, and any applicant whose first language is not English, must demonstrate English-language proficiency through TOEFL iBT 90 overall with no section below 20 (or 575 on the paper-based test), or IELTS Academic 6.5 overall with no component below 6.0. There is no separate application process beyond registering for the course. Progression within the program is not an admission condition but a completion one: a course score of 75% or higher is required to earn the Level I micro-certificate and advance to Level II.

Application Details

Application Deadline: Domestic applicants apply through EducationPlannerBC, which opens for 2027-entry applications on 1 October 2026: most degree programmes see September 2027 entry close 31 January 2027, January 2027 entry close 30 September 2026, and Summer 2027 entry close 31 March 2027, though Teacher Education post-degree programmes close 2 January 2027, Indigenous Education post-degree admits on an ongoing basis, and Engineering's Summer entry (high-school graduates only) closes 31 December 2026. International applicants use the same portal and face identical dates, since UVic publishes no separate international deadline. UVic treats these as fixed annual dates rather than rolling admission, though it warns any programme can close early without notice. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
