BA/BS in Sustainability and Financial Management

The Bachelor of Sustainability and Financial Management at the University of Waterloo is a co-op-only program combining an accounting and finance education from the School of Accounting and Finance with sustainability studies from the Faculty of Environment. The curriculum goes beyond conventional finance to examine how financial decisions affect people and the environment, positioning the degree as a direct route toward a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) or Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation. Students complete 16 months of paid co-op work experience as part of the program, gaining exposure to potential career paths before graduation. The program is offered only in the co-op format and is not available as a regular, non-co-op program. Graduates pursue roles such as accountant, financial consultant, sustainability analyst, ESG policy analyst, and internal auditor, applying financial management skills within a sustainability-focused framework.
