Program details
Overview
Physical Sciences is a Bachelor of Science programme at the University of Waterloo that lets students choose one of eight majors starting in first year, spanning physics, chemistry, earth sciences and related disciplines. Each major is available through the co-op or regular system of study, with the exception of Medicinal Chemistry, which is co-op only. The programme covers the natural laws and forces that govern matter, combining foundational science coursework with major-specific specialization from first year onward. Ontario secondary school applicants apply through the Ontario Universities' Application Centre with six Grade 12 U or M courses, including English, Advanced Functions and Calculus and Vectors (each with a minimum final grade of 70%) plus two of Biology, Chemistry, Earth and Space Science, Mathematics of Data Management or Physics; the competitive admission average for recent cycles has been in the low 80s. Graduates receive a Bachelor of Science in their chosen major.
