Overview
Physics (Quantum Information) at the University of Waterloo leads to a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), a research-based variant of the Physics PhD delivered in collaboration with the Institute for Quantum Computing. Students work closely with a supervisor to perform original research in quantum information, completing advanced courses on the foundations, applications, and implementation of quantum information processing, culminating in a PhD thesis. Admission normally requires a master's degree in physics with at least a 75% standing; students with an undergraduate degree in physics may also apply directly to the PhD program if they have an outstanding academic record, breadth of knowledge in physics, and strong letters of recommendation. The program is delivered on campus and runs full-time over 48 months, with admission available for the Fall, Winter, and Spring terms.
