Overview

Physics (Nanotechnology) at the University of Waterloo leads to a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), a collaborative, research-based variant of the Physics PhD focused on nanoscience. Students work closely with a supervisor to produce original research in an area of nanotechnology, such as bio-nanotechnology, soft matter physics, or quantum materials, culminating in a PhD thesis, and gain a strong foundation in emerging areas of nanoscience. Admission normally requires a master's degree in physics with at least a 75% standing; students with an undergraduate degree in physics may also apply directly to the PhD program if they have an outstanding academic record, breadth of knowledge in physics, and strong letters of recommendation, along with three academic references. The program is delivered on campus and runs full-time over 48 months, with admission available for the Fall, Winter, and Spring terms.
