The Master of Science in Physics at the University of Waterloo is offered through the Department of Physics and Astronomy, one of the largest physics and astronomy graduate programs in Canada. The program offers three study options: a funded, research-based thesis option; a master's research paper option that is primarily coursework-based and unfunded; and a coursework-based quantum technology specialization completed in 12 months. Research areas span astrophysics, atomic, molecular and optical physics, biophysics, chemical physics, condensed matter physics, industrial and applied physics, quantum computing, and subatomic physics. The thesis-based option is designed to be completed over 24 months of full-time, on-campus study. Admission requires an Honours bachelor's degree, or equivalent, in science with a minimum overall standing of 75%. Applicants whose prior education was not conducted in English must meet the university's English language proficiency requirements. The program admits new students in the Fall, Winter, and Spring terms.
