Overview
The Master of Mathematics in Computer Science at the University of Waterloo is a research-based graduate program in the Faculty of Mathematics, delivered on the Waterloo campus, with full-time or part-time registration available. Admission is to the thesis option, though a master's research paper study path also exists within the program. Students carry out research in one of a wide range of areas offered by the David R. Cheriton School of Computer Science, including algorithms and complexity, artificial intelligence, bioinformatics, computer graphics, cryptography and security, databases, formal methods, health informatics, human-computer interaction, information retrieval, machine learning, programming languages, quantum computing, scientific computing, software engineering, and systems and networking. Applicants typically hold an honours undergraduate degree in computer science or a related engineering field, and contacting a potential faculty supervisor before applying is encouraged. The program suits students seeking advanced, research-oriented training in computer science, whether as preparation for a research career or as a step toward doctoral study.
