Overview
This Master of Arts in Recreation and Leisure Studies is a thesis-based research degree in the Faculty of Health, offered full-time over 24 months or part-time over 36 months. The curriculum examines leisure from social science perspectives, including leisure, health and wellbeing, leisure and community, and the spatial, social justice, organizational, and policy dimensions of leisure services. Students develop research methods skills, including hypothesis testing and theory development, while completing an independent thesis under faculty supervision. Three active research labs are open to graduate students, covering feminist scholarship and social justice, athlete safety and sport-related injury, and justice-oriented approaches to leisure and health. The programme is delivered on-campus with a single Fall (September) intake, and prepares graduates for further study at the PhD level or professional careers related to leisure and recreation.
