Overview
The Pharmacy Technician certificate will prepare students to learn to safely and accurately prepare and distribute pharmaceutical products, promote patient health, and communicate with health care professionals in a community or hospital pharmacy. Students will integrate health promotion and public health initiatives into pharmacy practice, and develop, implement and evaluate quality assurance policies, procedures and activities to optimize patient safety. Participation in a mandatory practicum in a community and hospital pharmacy for 10 weeks will expand on classroom learning.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: This programme requires Grade 12 graduation, or equivalent, plus English Studies 12 at a minimum 'B', one of Foundations of Math 12 or Pre-Calculus 11 at a minimum 'C+', Chemistry 11 at a minimum 'C+', Anatomy & Physiology 12 at a minimum 'C+', and the VCC Health Sciences Math Assessment at 80% or higher. The page does not name a standardized English test score (IELTS, TOEFL, PTE or similar); non-native speakers are directed to VCC's general English Language Proficiency requirements. Once accepted, students must provide a negative tuberculosis skin test or chest X-ray dated within six months of the start date, pass a criminal record check, and complete the School of Health Sciences Student Immunization Record. Applicants must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents, at least 16 years old or a secondary-school graduate, and submit official transcripts and any other required documents.
