Program details

Overview

Construction Electrician Apprentice is delivered through Vancouver Community College's Modernized Apprenticeship Pathway (MAP), a hybrid model that lets registered apprentices continue working while completing technical training toward a BC trade certificate in electrical installation, testing, and repair for homes and buildings. Training is organized into four levels (ELCO 1001 through ELCO 4001), each worth 16.5 credits, combining weekly 1.5-hour synchronous online sessions, monthly on-campus labs, and up to five hours a week of independent study; the length of each level varies rather than following a single fixed program duration. Entry requires a valid SkilledTradesBC ID number, a current employer and sponsor, and an official apprenticeship number with SkilledTradesBC before enrolling. The pathway is designed to fit around on-the-job apprenticeship hours rather than requiring full-time campus attendance.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: Applicants need a valid SkilledTradesBC ID number and a current employer and sponsor, and must hold an official apprenticeship number with SkilledTradesBC before enrolling. General requirements also apply: applicants must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents, at least 16 years of age or a graduate of a secondary school, and must submit official transcripts and educational documents as required.
