Overview
The Bachelor of Science in Biology program is designed to be experiential, and invites you to study local and global biological phenomena while contributing to research that has meaningful, real-world applications. Take advantage of small class sizes and learn and discover alongside your professor in the classroom, the lab and the field. Many graduates have continued on to further research and graduate studies, while others have entered successful careers in medicine, health sciences, natural sciences, teaching, physiotherapy, conservation, marine biology, and more.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: The Biology BSc page requires a minimum "B" grade in either Pre-Calculus 12 or Principles of Mathematics 12, and to clear all first-year course prerequisites it further asks for a minimum "C" in English 12, a minimum "C+" in each of Biology 11 or 12, Chemistry 11 and Chemistry 12, and Physics 11 (Physics 12 is recommended but not required); a limited number of seats are available to students who completed only Chemistry 11 at a minimum "C+". VIU's general admission requirements for academic programs also apply, admitting graduates of a BC secondary school (or equivalent) with at least a "C" in English Studies 12 or English First Peoples 12, or via a prior degree, Letter of Permission, transfer credits, or the academic mature-student category. No IELTS, TOEFL, PTE, Duolingo or CAEL score is published for this domestic route, and no minimum admission GPA applies at entry; the separate Honours option requires a minimum GPA of 3.67 ("A-") on the most recent 45 credits of study.
