Overview
Artificial Intelligence Systems Engineering (AISE) at Western University is an undergraduate combined-degree program pairing an artificial intelligence and machine learning specialization with one of five core engineering disciplines: Civil, Chemical, Electrical, Mechanical, or Mechatronic Systems Engineering. Alongside the foundational requirements of the chosen core discipline, students complete more than seven specialized AI and machine learning courses covering machine learning methods, data engineering, Internet of Things networks and systems, signal processing, system design, and applied probability and statistics. Admission Requirements: Western's Artificial Intelligence Systems Engineering (AISE) page states this is a combined degree completed alongside one of five base engineering disciplines rather than a stand-alone admission stream: applicants gain entry to Western Engineering's Common First Year with an Ontario Secondary School Diploma covering six Grade 12 U/M courses, including English (ENG4U), Advanced Functions (MHF4U) and Calculus and Vectors (MCV4U), admitted competitively on the top-six average, and then add the AISE combined degree once enrolled in one of the five host engineering programs. Application Deadline:Western applies through the Ontario Universities' Application Centre, which opens for Fall 2027 entry in late September 2026; Western's own equal-consideration deadline for full-time undergraduate study is 15 January 2027, the same date used for domestic (OUAC 101/105) and international applicants alike, since Western publishes no separate international closing date. Several named programmes carry their own earlier deadlines within the cycle: Medicine (MD) closes 1 October 2026, Law (JD) and Dentistry (DDS) close 1 November 2026, Education (BEd) closes 2 November 2026, and Western Integrated Science closes in early April 2027. Students already enrolled in an Ontario high school cannot be required to respond to an offer before 1 June 2027. Admission is not rolling: applicants are assessed against these published deadlines.
