Anthropology (MA) at Western University is a thesis-based graduate program studying human beings from cultural and biological perspectives, drawing on the social sciences, natural sciences, and humanities. Students choose one of three research fields: Applied Archaeology, Archaeology and Biological Anthropology, or Sociocultural and Linguistic Anthropology. The program runs six terms full-time, with a part-time route of twelve terms available only within the Applied Archaeology field. Applicants typically hold a four-year honours degree in anthropology or an equivalent academic background relevant to their intended field of specialization. As a thesis-based degree, students complete original research culminating in a master's thesis under faculty supervision. The program's three-field structure allows students to specialize in archaeological, biological, or sociocultural and linguistic approaches to anthropology within Western's Department of Anthropology.
