Overview
The Bachelor of Education is a professional program offered by Western University's Faculty of Education, within its Initial Teacher Education Program. The program comprises four consecutive semesters, each covering 14 weeks of course work, field work and practicum, with orientation held just before the Labour Day weekend. Students complete 6.75 to 8.0 credits of course work, depending on the program stream, together with 2.00 credits of Field Experiences including practicum placements. Candidates choose among the Primary/Junior Program, Junior/Intermediate Program and Intermediate/Senior Programs, each preparing graduates to teach within a specific grade-level band of the Ontario school system. Requirements
Admission Requirements: Western's Bachelor of Education is a consecutive, 16-month professional program open only to applicants who already hold, or are on track to complete, an acceptable undergraduate degree. Applicants must have successfully completed 10.0 full course equivalents (FCE) at the time of application and be on track to complete their degree from an accredited university by August 31 of the year they wish to register, with the degree conferred no later than that fall. An acceptable bachelor's degree requires an overall minimum cumulative weighted average of 70%; applicants with a four-year degree receive preference over those with a three-year degree. Applicants apply through the Teacher Education Application Service (TEAS), complete the Casper assessment, submit official transcripts from all postsecondary institutions attended, and submit a Course Requirement Form identifying the courses supporting their intended teaching subject(s); each teaching division (Primary/Junior, Junior/Intermediate, Intermediate/Senior) sets its own subject-specific course and grade requirements, typically a 70% minimum average in courses supporting the teaching subject.
