Overview

The Certificate in Critical Public Health is offered by Western University's Faculty of Health Sciences, School of Health Studies. It gives students a broad understanding of public health strategies, covering the core principles of public health, the impact of health policy on population health, and global perspectives on emerging environmental issues and social determinants of health within a changing geopolitical landscape. The certificate is taken alongside a student's primary degree module rather than as a standalone credential, and completion requires 3.5 courses beyond the stated admission prerequisites. Enrollment is limited, and meeting the minimum entry requirements does not guarantee a place. Students may not count more than 1.0 course in common between the certificate and their degree module, and students enrolled in any Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics module are not eligible to add this certificate.

Admission Requirements: Students must achieve an average of at least 70% across 3.0 specific courses: one of Health Sciences 1001A/B or 1002A/B; one of Biology 1001A/B or 1002A/B; and one mathematics or quantitative course from Applied Mathematics 1201A/B, an approved Calculus course, Data Science 1000A/B, or an approved Mathematics course. Students may not have more than 1.0 course in common with their degree module, and students in any Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics module are not eligible. Enrollment is limited and meeting these minimum requirements does not guarantee admission.
