Overview
The Master of Arts in English at Western University is a graduate program in English literary and cultural studies, offered as either a course-based or project-based option and completed over three terms of full-time study. Faculty expertise spans traditional literary scholarship and historical approaches to major literary periods and genres, alongside interdisciplinary approaches including discourse analysis, cultural studies, postcolonial literature and theory, feminist and gender studies, studies of masculinity, ecological criticism, film, hypertext, and theories of race, as well as the intersections between literature and the discourses of science, medicine, music, art, and law. Admission requires an Honours Bachelor of Arts in English, or in English combined with another subject, with at least an A-minus average in Honours English courses. Applicants whose first language is not English must meet the department's proficiency requirements, such as a TOEFL score of 109 (internet-based) or an IELTS score of 8 out of 9.
