Overview
This Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Archaeology, described by Université Laval as unique in Canada, provides theoretical and practical training in archaeological excavation techniques, artifact analysis, and material culture interpretation. The 90-credit programme, completed over three years of full-time study, takes a multidisciplinary approach spanning geology, biology, ethnology, history, and anthropology, and includes a mandatory five-week archaeological fieldwork practicum. Students have access to eight specialized research laboratories covering stone tools, classical archaeology, environmental archaeology, ceramics, Near Eastern archaeology, zooarchaeology, and bioarchaeology, with Canada exchange and international profile options available. It is offered by Université Laval's Faculty of Social Sciences with admission sessions in fall and winter. Students can also take part in a Canada Exchange profile or an International Profile as part of their studies.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Quebec DEC holders need any DEC to apply. Applicants from outside Quebec need a secondary school diploma plus one year of university study; those with only a secondary diploma must complete the preparatory pathway in humanities. International applicants need the equivalent of 13 years of pre-university education, 12 years plus one year of higher education, a French baccalauréat, or a Belgian general upper secondary certificate. Non-francophone applicants must demonstrate French proficiency through the TCF test. No minimum cote de rendement au collégial is published; the application is assessed on the overall quality of the academic file.
