This four-year, full-time PhD in Biological and Chemical Sciences at Wilfrid Laurier University is delivered in person on the Waterloo campus, with September, January, and May intakes, and operates through an apprenticeship model in which students work closely with a faculty supervisor. Research strengths span three areas: environment and health, covering issues that affect the environment and may ultimately impact global health; biotic interactions, examining relationships across levels of biological organization; and structure and reactivity, studying molecular and supramolecular structures and their properties. Applicants must contact a prospective supervisor before applying and submit two academic reference letters, a statement of research interests, a 10-20 page writing sample, and a resume including publication history. Full-time domestic students are eligible for funding through teaching assistantships and scholarships, and top applicants may receive a Dean's Graduate Scholarship exceeding $10,000. Students can also access the ASPIRE professional-skills training program. Graduates pursue roles as researchers and instructors in academia or as research scientists in industry and government.
