Biology is a four-year programme at Wilfrid Laurier University offered as either a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science, covering cell and molecular biology, microbiology, genetics, anatomy, physiology, ecology and biodiversity through hands-on labs, fieldwork and optional co-op. The BA stream lets students combine core biology courses with any other discipline and suits those aiming for careers in teaching, environmental policy or science writing, while the BSc stream offers concentrations such as Cell and Molecular Biology or Ecology and Biodiversity and prepares students for roles such as toxicologist, pharmacist or microbiologist, or further study in medicine or biotechnology. Students can apply for co-op at the end of first year to complete two four-month work terms, and two-week global field experiences are available through the Ontario Universities Program in Field Biology in locations from Northern Canada to Africa and the Caribbean. An honours thesis option lets students work closely with a faculty mentor through the research process. BA graduates pursue roles such as environmental policy advisor or public health professional, while BSc graduates pursue roles such as laboratory technician, pharmacist or toxicologist. The programme is delivered on campus with September and January intakes.
