History (PhD)

The PhD in History at Wilfrid Laurier University is delivered through the Tri-University Graduate Program in History, a partnership between Laurier, the University of Waterloo, and the University of Guelph. The collaborative structure gives students access to faculty expertise and course offerings across all three institutions. Admission requires a Master of Arts in History with a minimum A- standing; applications are reviewed by the Tri-University Admissions Committee, which considers prior university grades, a statement of research interests, and letters of reference. Applicants whose prior instruction was not in English must submit evidence of English proficiency. The program is designed to be completed in four years of full-time study, with students admitted for the Fall term. Graduates develop original historical research culminating in a dissertation and are prepared for academic and research careers.
