The PhD in History at York University supports intensive examination of historical questions through gender, transnational and comparative, economic, political, cultural and social approaches. Geographic fields include Africa, the Caribbean, Latin America, the ancient world, Britain, Canada, Europe and the United States, alongside thematic fields spanning culture, migration and ethnicity, politics and law, science and health, social and economic history, women, gender and sexuality, and transnational and global history. The degree combines comprehensive examinations with a dissertation based on original research within the Department of History.
