Overview
York University's Master of Arts (MA) in Political Science takes an interdisciplinary approach to the study of politics, with a program-wide commitment to critical thinking and political change. Areas of focus include critical political economy, critical social theory, critical global politics, feminist politics, the history of political thought, social movements and social justice, theories of power, and questions of justice and democracy. Students may also pursue graduate diplomas in democratic administration or in international and security studies alongside the MA. The program admits students in the Fall term only, with an application deadline of December 1. Admission requires a minimum B+ average, two letters of recommendation, a resume or CV, a 500-word statement of interest, and a seminar paper of 2,500 to 4,000 words. Applicants whose first language is not English must also meet York's minimum TOEFL score of 100, or 5 on the post-2026 scale.
