IT Security / Networks and Systems is a Master's programme at Ruhr-Universität Bochum taught in German and English. It centres on the security of networked information systems.
Students consider how information is represented, stored, transmitted and processed, where the internet, computer networks, phones and cars can be attacked, and how systems stay secure against defined goals such as confidentiality, integrity, authenticity and anonymity. Cryptographic methods, including encryption and digital signatures, are studied together with their implementation, as is protection against hacking and the human side of security.
The programme lasts four semesters and starts in either the winter or the summer semester. Admission is open (zulassungsfrei).
Further details on enrolment are available separately for German and international applicants, and the semester contribution is explained on a dedicated university page. Students can turn to the study advisory service of the department with questions about content and admission.
