Applied Electrical Engineering is a BSc programme in the Department of Applied Engineering. It runs for three and a half years, carries 210 ECTS credits and is taught in Icelandic. Graduates are awarded the title rafmagnstæknifræðingur.
The curriculum brings together electronic systems, power theory, telecommunications, automation, computing, heavy industry and energy technology. The aim is a practical command of electrical and electronic system design backed by a firm theoretical base. Design projects start in the first year, and final projects usually involve technology companies and fall within high voltage, low voltage or computing.
Students may specialise in high-voltage or low-voltage work and select courses to match, or they can mix courses without specialising. Internships and the final project in the seventh semester can follow a specialisation. Graduating with one requires at least three specialisation courses plus a final project in that field.
