Artificial Intelligence and Language Technology is a two-year master's programme of 120 ECTS credits in the Department of Computer Science. It is run jointly by Reykjavik University together with the University of Iceland. Students learn to apply machine learning and deep learning to difficult problems and to build systems that handle and interpret human language, with the skills also usable outside language technology.
Project topics include speech analysis and synthesis, chatbots, machine translation, question answering, parsing and information extraction. Students work with their supervisors to shape a research project, and many carry it out within the Language and Voice Lab, part of the CADIA research centre. A number of students have published papers at peer-reviewed conferences with their supervisors.
Students can enrol at either university and attend classes at both, graduating from the one where they are registered. Demand for specialists in this area is growing among IT firms and businesses that serve clients through written and spoken language.
