Sport Science is an undergraduate programme in the Department of Sport Science, awarding a BSc after three years and 181 ECTS credits of study. Teaching is mainly in Icelandic, and students must be able to study in that language.
The programme introduces the foundations of training through physiology, kinesiology and psychology, and then applies them in more advanced subjects such as coaching science and performance measurement. Students also gain basic pedagogical skills and put them to use repeatedly in real situations. Learning relies on electronic material, lectures, workshops and projects, together with plenty of practical sessions and feedback on assignments rather than grades alone.
The department has partnership agreements with sports federations including KSÍ, HSÍ, KKÍ and FSÍ. Bachelor's students can join teachers in measuring the physical abilities of athletes on national and elite teams and gain field experience.
