AA/AS in Biology

The Associate of Science in Biology is a four-semester programme intended to prepare technical-level assistants who can support work in the biological sciences, including the protection of habitats and ecosystems. Courses transfer into the Bachelor of Science in Biological Science at the university. The core covers foundations of biology, human anatomy and physiology, zoology, botany, genetics and molecular biology, supported by general chemistry and computer applications. Students are expected to build knowledge of cell structure, genetics and molecular biology, practise laboratory methods including microscopy and DNA analysis, and learn to communicate findings in reports and presentations. The curriculum also compares body structure, function and behaviour in a range of organisms, and covers how diseases arise, are prevented and are treated. Total credits are 69, split among core, cognate and general education requirements.
