BA/BS in Dental Hygiene

Dental Hygiene at Northern Caribbean University prepares students to deliver preventive, educational and therapeutic oral health care. The course list begins with oral embryology and histology, oral anatomy and physiology, head and neck anatomy, dental materials and dental radiology, then moves into fundamentals of dental hygiene, where learners practise taking health histories, screening and cleaning procedures. Supervised clinical rotations follow in successive stages, with students providing comprehensive hygiene care to patients under individual treatment plans and making referrals when needed. Supporting courses include oral pathology, oral microbiology, dental nutrition, dental health education taught to school groups, and community dental health, which uses programme planning and population survey techniques. A dental seminar and a course on ethics, jurisprudence and practice management prepare students for professional practice and for the working world.
