The Bachelor of Science in Agronomy focuses on field-crop production and soil management, looking at crop systems that meet producers' economic goals, society's needs and changing climate conditions. The recommended sequence runs eight semesters, followed by one summer of externship and internship once all classes are complete.
Core courses cover ornamental horticulture, plant propagation, weed science, vegetable, field and forage crops, plant protection, soils and fertilizer, agro-ecology, plant breeding, post-harvest physiology, tree crops, forestry, soil microbiology, farm machinery and buildings, and farm management and agribusiness. Students also complete farm practice, agri-seminars, an internship and extension course, and an undergraduate research project. Supporting biology, chemistry, genetics, biochemistry, physics and geography courses round out the degree, which totals 140 credits. General education credits are recommended at 40 to 42, and students are expected to manage their own progress against the stated requirements.
