Overview
The Bachelor of Arts in General Studies at Northern Caribbean University suits students who prefer a broad, self-assembled course of study over a single major and minor. In place of that pairing, each learner chooses several areas of emphasis. Every emphasis is built from at least 27 credits and draws on three or more related disciplines, with a share of the work at upper-division level.
The university's general education requirements run alongside these emphases rather than counting toward them. Students file a course plan with their adviser or the programme coordinator by the close of their second year, and the Academic Board must approve it. Each department chairperson advises on the emphasis taken in that department, and the general studies department's coordinator or chairperson acts as the overall adviser. Because the plan spans several fields, the degree gives room to combine subjects that a conventional major would keep separate.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Applicants must satisfy the university's general entry rules plus the rules of each minor in their study plan. Transfer entrants need a cumulative GPA of at least 2.25. During the degree, students must keep a 2.5 minimum average in two or more of their emphasis areas and 2.25 or better in the remaining one.
