Overview
The RN-BSc Upgrade lets registered nurses who already hold a diploma, certificate or associate degree in nursing earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Northern Caribbean University. Applicants are judged through a competency-based review of prior learning, and each transcript is evaluated individually by the Department of Nursing to decide which earlier courses transfer.
The nursing core is taught online, on modular timetables. They include health assessment, principles of wholistic health, nursing research, methods of teaching and testing, nursing leadership and management, and issues and trends in nursing. Required cognates add chemistry for nursing, anatomy and physiology, microbiology, nutrition and diet therapy, probability and statistics, psychology and introductory sociology, alongside a recommended 40 to 42 credits of general education.
Because each nurse arrives with different prior credits, the department issues a personalised check sheet. Final-year students also sit the Language and Content Examination.
