BA/BS in Performance and Pedagogy

This degree in performance and pedagogy at Northern Caribbean University combines performance study with training in how to teach music. The early sequence pairs music theory and sight-singing with applied music lessons, ensemble participation, an introduction to music notation software and introductory conducting. Pedagogy courses begin in the first year, and students later take practicum courses that put teaching methods into practice. Second-year study adds more advanced theory and sight-singing, music history in two parts, form and analysis, continuing applied music with forum, and recitals. The programme is run through the Department of Music and Fine Arts, whose chair advises students on how their music study fits with their wider plans. The first-year pedagogy courses lead into practicum work in the second year, and recitals feature in the second-year plan.
