This programme prepares physical geography specialists in hydrology and oceanography, supporting Lithuania's strategic interests as a maritime country under its marine environmental protection law. Students study the earth's geospheres, geological structure and relief, alongside hydrology, oceanography, climatology, meteorology and biogeographical patterns, building skills in geographic information systems, cartography and environmental mapping. Summer practicals take students into the field along rivers, lagoons and the Baltic Sea to apply monitoring and research techniques to oceans, seas, estuaries and coastal catchment systems. Research training covers planning experiments, applying current geographical research methods at local, regional and global scales, and processing and interpreting data from scientific literature, databases and laboratory equipment. Graduates are prepared to assess the state of the marine environment and contribute to coastal management, environmental protection and sustainable development work, with the option to continue into master's study.
