This programme builds in-depth knowledge of public health together with the foundations of scientific research, aiming to meet the health needs of both the general public and the workplace. Coursework covers anatomy and physiology, biochemistry and biostatistics, demographic processes, environmental health, injury prevention, microbiology and infectious and chronic disease, alongside health psychology, oral health, nursing basics, health management, health ethics and law, and health-impact assessment, with further subjects on child and youth health, ageing, occupational health and primary health care. Three practice placements and two coursework projects run alongside the theoretical modules, supported by teaching methods such as case analysis, legal-document review, project preparation and problem-based learning, and the course concludes with a thesis. Graduates are trained to identify health risks and inequalities in a population, design and coordinate evidence-based health-promotion programmes for specific community groups, including people with special needs, and apply public-health strategy and policy in practice.
