Overview
This geology degree trains students to analyse the Earth as a single interacting system, examining its structure, make-up and geological processes, for work in national and international geological investigation. The 120-credit core covers physical geology, mineralogy and crystallography, sedimentary petrography, palaeontology, quaternary geology, geotectonics and structural geology, before students choose between a Geology specialisation covering igneous and metamorphic petrology, geochemistry and mineral deposits, or a Hydrogeology and Engineering Geology specialisation covering hydrogeodynamics, soil science and the assessment of groundwater resources. Twenty credits of fieldwork training take place in Lithuania and abroad, covering geological mapping, stratigraphy and geoengineering field investigation, alongside professional practice and a twelve-credit final thesis within the chosen specialisation. Assessment combines examinations with the defence of term papers, investigation projects and practice reports. Graduates can pursue careers in geological exploration, production and environmental protection at enterprises and state institutions.
