Overview
The programme focuses on one of four world regions, Japan, China, South Asia, or the Arabic-speaking countries, combining language training in Japanese, Chinese, Hindi, Sanskrit, Arabic, Persian, or Turkish with coursework spanning history, philosophy, anthropology, religious studies, art, and literature. Students are admitted to a specific regional specialisation and are expected to reach a B2.2 language level by graduation. Teaching includes lectures, seminars, fieldwork, individual and group research projects, paper writing, and a learning portfolio, and studies are completed with written examinations graded on a one-to-ten scale. Learning outcomes include critically engaging with the culture and society of the chosen region, interpreting primary and secondary written, oral, and visual sources, conducting and presenting original research, and comparing ideas across different academic disciplines. Graduates are prepared for work in culture, education, tourism, state administration, or NGOs connected to the region studied.
