This master's programme prepares heritage specialists who understand traditional and modern concepts of heritage conservation and can work in the administration, conveying, and non-destructive research of cultural heritage. First-year compulsory modules cover the theory and practice of conserving cultural heritage, the theoretical and didactical problems of Lithuanian history, and the conservation of immovable cultural heritage, followed by a third semester of professional and scientific practice and a research master seminar before a final-semester thesis.
Elective courses include GIS and IT applications in heritage conservation, 20th-century Lithuanian history and monuments, Lithuanian archaeological heritage, heritage communication and interpretation, and the economics of cultural heritage. Learning outcomes include determining the appropriate research type for specific conservation tasks, collecting and analysing texts, documents, and iconography using humanities research methods, and applying the ethical obligations established in national and international heritage-conservation documents.
