This master's programme integrates applied linguistics and law, training philologists to analyse, interpret, and draft legal texts across criminal law, civil law and civil process, constitutional and administrative law, labour and social security law, and international and EU law, in either English or German alongside Lithuanian. Compulsory subjects cover the theory and terminology of language for specific purposes and contrastive grammar, totalling 65 credits, supported by a 30-credit master's thesis and elective courses in legal argumentation, lexicography, linguistic pragmatics, and IT in translation.
Learning outcomes include comparing and evaluating how social relations are regulated across different states, understanding and editing different types and styles of legal texts, in a foreign language and in Lithuanian, and translating and interpreting between them. Graduates are prepared to work as interpreters and translators, consultants, or personal assistants in EU and international institutions, national government bodies, lawyers' and notary offices, courts, and translation bureaus, with the option to continue into doctoral studies in philology.
