Described as the only Lithuanian programme to train neurobiologists at the molecular and cellular level, this two-year degree covers the general structure, function and pathology of the nervous system through compulsory subjects in neurophysiology, neuroanatomy, biopsychology, psychophysiology, neurochemistry and the mechanisms of sensation, perception and sensory transduction, finished with a research project and a thesis. Elective subjects add adaptive neurotechnology, neuroethics, human neuropsychology, behavioural genetics, membrane biology and neuron biophysics. Teaching runs through lectures, laboratory work, practical training, seminars and self-study, building the ability to plan and carry out experiments on the nervous system and analyse the resulting data, with graduates moving into medical institutions, education and public or private agencies, research and development work, or high-technology industry, or continuing into doctoral study.
